What DecorQuip learnt in the hack
Wednesday the 22nd March was a typical Wednesday for one of our clients, ‘DecorQuip’. However, unbeknownst to them, the day was actually going to take a sinister turn, as their systems had been attacked by cyber criminals, with a crypto locker virus. They were trying to steal their data and hold it to ransom.
Some had successfully gained administrative access via their server using something called ‘Brute Force’, which will simply try to guess the password using as many different variations as possible. This is why it is so vital that your administrative passwords use complex combinations and omit the use of any part of the username.
As with any cybercrime, half the battle of ensuring your own business doesn’t fall victim, is raising awareness and making sure all your employees remain vigilant to what types of cybercrime are being used. Being true to their core values: honesty, caring, and showing respect, DecorQuip wanted to share their experiences of what happened to them and how RockIT were able to resolve the issue, so that other businesses can learn from their unfortunate situation.
